Dyslexia Assessments with Castiglione Consulting

Dyslexia Assessments with Lia

As a specialist teacher assessor holding a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), I provide diagnostic assessments to investigate dyslexia and specific learning differences for students in:

·      Higher education, including for DSA funding

·      Upper primary (10 years and older), secondary and further education

·      Workplace, including for support in professional examinations

The Assessment Process

The starting point for the assessment is to gather detailed background information through questionnaires and discussion. This information helps to inform the diagnostic outcome and support recommendations.

The assessment session, which lasts around three hours, then takes place and is carried out remotely using an online digital platform or in suitable a face-to-face setting. Testing is conducted through a range of assessment tasks covering:

·       Aspects of reading, spelling and writing

·       Areas of processing that are associated with specific learning differences, including working memory, phonological skills and processing speed

·       Verbal and nonverbal reasoning abilities

Following the assessment, a formal report is provided, containing the assessment results, diagnostic conclusions, and recommendations for support, including exam access arrangements. Where appropriate, recommendations for onward referrals will also be included.

 Disabled Students’ Allowance

For students in higher educations, or for those who will progress to higher education in the future, the report can be used to apply for the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). Further details about DSA can be found on the GOV.UK website: https://www.gov.uk/disabled-students-allowance-dsa
